Welcome

The objective of this site is to inform patients, family members and professionals of the benefits of conservative treatment of scoliosis with the Rigo System Cheneau brace (RSC) and Cheneau brace. A summary is provided of my Master of Science by thesis on the RSC brace and Cheneau brace, as well as other works completed on the RSC brace. These answers contained in the website have been concluded from my experience with the Rigo System Cheneau brace (RSC) and Cheneau brace and therefore are my perceptions and beliefs. As a result, it is important to also consult your orthopedist (MD), physical therapist and orthotist with any scoliosis questions. RSC Introduction 

Thermoplastic braces such as the TLSO Boston brace places pressure pads over the convexities of the thoracic and lumbar curves in attempt to correct lateral deviation and rotation. However, Dr. Chêneau of France in 1979 found these general correction principles insufficient, and as a result, he designed a Chêneau brace that endeavours to treat every aspect of the complex 3D deformity (Rigo and Chêneau, 1997). The Chêneau brace is defined as a thermoplastic brace modelled on a hyper-corrected positive plaster-cast of the patient. The general correction principle is that of detorsion and sagittal plane normalisation, which would correct the coronal and transverse planes, resulting in some elongation of the spine, without any significant distraction force. During the past few years, Dr. Rigo of Barcelona has furthered the development of the original Chêneau brace by combining his new classification of scoliosis.

RSC Brace Correction Results 


In Feb 2007 an X-ray was taken which presented a progression to about 60 degrees thoracic curve. The patient's mother found out about the Rigo System Cheneau (RSC) brace and the patient was therefore fit with a RSC brace by Dr Rigo in April 2007, at 8 years old. In April 2008, a second RSC brace was fabricated and fit to the patient as present brace was too small. May 2008 in-brace X-ray demonstrated a 15 degree thoracic curve. In July 2009 a third RSC brace was fabricated and fit, which presented with an in-brace x-ray of 14 degree Cobb. Patient is now 10 years old and has a very nice physiological and cosmetically pleasing trunk and pelvic shape.
